MEXICO, OAXACA STATE- Eight (8) pieces of Natural Cocoa Beans, with an information card. Used as money in Preconquest Mexico by the Aztec and other native peoples, later in Colonial Spanish times and even during the Mexican Revolution. These are list in most works on Odd and Curious Money as a money item. These are the beans from which chocolate we all love so much is made. During Aztec times these were so valuable that counterfeiters actually removed the meat from inside and glued the empty skin back with dirt inside to spend the worthless husk! Great for your primitive money collection or for teachers, etc. These beans are modern, recent of course.
