The Spanish milled dollar or "Pillar Dollar", minted from 1732 to 1773, was circulating throughout the world, even serving as standard currency in the United States. Its usage was so widespread that some historians argue its pillars with scrolls running across them inspired the creation of the $ symbol. Pillar Dollar coins were machine pressed (milled) to make near perfect coins.The decree of Philip V to produce Pillar Dollars created the basis for world monetary system for all countries. The Pillar Dollar design are similar to its predecessor?s. The cross is absent from the reverse side and replaced by a simplified coat of arms of the Bourbon dynasty. The pillars on obverse frame two words
