High Protein for Trophy Racks
This Clover is recommended for its palatability among white tail deer. The plants and flowers may also attract turkey, rabbits and a variety of animals and birds.
Perennial Ladino Clover is a quality forage seed for wildlife food plots. It does not have to re-seed to grow from year to year, it grows and spreads from the root system. This is why clover maintains high protein levels all year, and one of the reasons that it is highly recommended for food plots for whitetail deer.
Ladino clover will grow and usually thrive without following the instructions to the letter. The seed will grow if planted like grass seed, barely cover with dirt or cover with straw to keep the birds from eating it. Do not plant during hot/dry weather, the seeds need adequate moisture to germinate.
This clover grows in full sun to partial shade, grows 12-14 inches tall. Easy to plant, plant generally like grass seed, the seeds are much smaller than grass seed, broadcast 8 lbs. or more seed per acre. The seeds are tiny, if you use a hand spreader, be certain to adjust the seed opening. This is usually the smallest setting on most hand spreaders. After broadcasting seed, hand rake in gently, or use a cultipacker or some type of heavy roller to roll over field. This presses seed into ground and helps insure better seed to soil contact and good germination. Do not cover seed more than 1/4 inch. Do Not disc seed into the ground, planting too deep with inhibit growth.
Maintenance Instructions;Ladino Clover is a legume capable of producing heavy growth. Depending on your deer and wildlife population and/or how much you plant, you may choose to mow your clover with bush hog to clip the weeds and clover down to about 4-6 inches, if not already eaten to that height, it will promote new tender growth on the clover. Spring and early fall are the best times to fertilize, clover is a legume and does not need nitrogen
