This issue honors the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci.
Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452 - May 2, 1519) is among the most influential artists in history, having left a significant legacy not only in the realm of art but in science as well, each discipline informing his mastery of the other. Da Vinci lived in a golden age of creativity among such contemporaries as Raphael and Michaelangelo, and contributed his unique genius to virtually everything he touched.
Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, from around 1489-1490. Unfortunately, the original background has been overlaid probably in the 17th century. The subject of the portrait is identified as Cecilia Gallerani, and was probably painted at a time when she was the mistress of Lodovico Sforza, Duke of Milan and Leonardo was in the service of the Duke.
