This issue marks the 2200th anniversary of the death of the Roman playwright, Plautus. Please note that the stock photo is of the proof version of this coin.
Titus Maccius Plautus (c. 254–184 BC), commonly known as Plautus, was a Roman playwright of the Old Latin period. His comedies are the earliest Latin literary works to have survived in their entirety.
The reverse shows theatrical masks representing two characters of the New Comedy, namely the young woman and the slave. Reproduced from a mosaic of the 2nd century AD. The obverse carries the standard 2 euro design.
