    Description

Mexico 1817 J.J. 1/2 Real, Silver Milled Bust King Ferdinand VII, American Colonial Coin
Ferdinand VII, 1/2 Real, 1817 Mo-JJ, good condition. Nicely toned and original.
This type is an issue of the Mexico City mint, which was operated by the royalist
until 1821, when it was taken over by the Iturbide regime. Several branch
mints were opened during the War of Independence, including Zacatecas,
Durango, Guanajuato and Chihuahua, but Mexico City remained the largest
producer of coin. Recorded mintage: Unknown,
Specification: 1.63 Grams, Fineness: .903 Fine Silver.
These colonial period coins circulated freely in the many
New World colonies of Spain and many were lost in galleon shipwrecks.
