    Description

    We are offering this fascinating 1796 Mexican or Spanish American 8 Reales silver coin which might bear evidence that it was from a shipwreck or was buried.  The face of the coin has accretions that look to me like it was in contact with elemental copper or copper coins for a long period of time.  Also, the coin has a number of hallmarks (possibly to assure purity when used in Asia).  As far as I can see, the coin has never been cleaned and would have a high grading except for the accretions  The coin is 1.5" in diameter and weighs 27.2 grams.
