  • Condition: 1712 "Charles the Pretender" 2 Reales Silver Coin with XL details and a full rim. The coin shows signs of light circulation wear on the high relief areas of the coin. The letters, date, crown and monogram are clearly defined. This coin has no significant worn areas or moderate damage. The color of the coin is a dark silverish/brown patina. An excellent piece of history to add to a collection.The 1712 Spanish 2 Reales coin originates in the Spain States Principality of Catalonia "Carlos III"(Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor) and is minted for King Carlos III at the Barcelona Mint. It is an unusual coinage design as "Carlos" appears as a monogram on the obverse and is also in the reverse legend. Carlos III (Austrian Archduke) was known as a pretender to the Spanish throne at the time. This Spanish Colonial coinage was also the typical coinage used in early American colonies, and is difficult to find such coinage in high grade condition.
